GameStop has 1.2 million Wii U game pre-orders

Wii U gamestopGameStop has announced that 1.2 million individual gamers have pre-ordered a Wii U game at its stores. On top of that, the company revealed that over 500,000 Wii U consoles have been pre-ordered at its stores so far. And even more are waiting in line: we recently reported that GameStop had over 250,000 gamers on a waiting list for a Wii U.

That means that 2.4 games have been pre-ordered with each console, which is twice the attach rate of the original Wii console in 2006, GameStop told Gamasutra. The Wii U has already started shipping to those who pre-ordered the console.

The top pre-ordered Wii U games were ZombiU, Call of Duty Black Ops 2, and New Super Mario Bros U. Nintendo Land wasn’t featured on the list, mainly because it’s part of the Wii U Deluxe kit, which includes a copy of the game.

The Wii U will launch with 23 retail games (and 7 indie titles), which is the second most games in a console launch history, second only to the PlayStation 2. The console will hit the stores on November 18, less than 2 days from now.
