GameStop: Switch is “selling out in hours”

The biggest games retailer in the world, GameStop, is selling out of Switch consoles fast. Really fast.

According to GameStop senior director of merchandising Eric Bright, the Switch is selling out “in hours” and that it has been “exceeding expectations” from GameStop so far.

Which isn’t a big surprise: the Switch has been sold out since it launched almost two months ago. Nintendo sold an impressive 2.7 million Switch consoles during its first month on the market. That’s more than anyone expected, even Nintendo.

“It’s exceeding our expectations. We knew it would be a high demand product, but our Switch allocations are selling out not in days, but in hours”, Said Bright, adding “would expect that to continue for quite some time.”

Nintendo has increased their forecast for fiscal year 2017 for Switch sales. They now expect to sell 10 million units during the current fiscal year, which ends March 31, 2018.

That would put Switch sales at about 13 million a year from now, surpassing the Wii U in just one year.
