Every year at Gamescom a handful of games are shuffled into categories and the best of show game or hardware is picked. This year is no different, with categories for Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo, as well as a handful of other categories relating to social and mobile games. Of note is the new hardware category, where Nintendo’s Amiibo project will face stiff competition like the nVidia SHIELD tablet and the Oculus Rift.

Notice anything strange? The Nintendo category is listed simply as Nintendo Wii instead of Wii U, while the nominees for that category are Splatoon, Super Smash Bros., and… LEGO Batman 3? What about Bayonetta 2? You know, the game that is a Wii U exclusive and will be hitting consoles in October? Or Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, a brand new game exclusive to Wii U.. I’ve said all this before. Doesn’t seem like much thought was put into that particular category.
Winners for each category will be announced on August 15.
