Estimates put US Wii U sales at 140k, up 233%

NPD-Group

Earlier this week we showed you numbers for all three consoles sold in the United Kingdom, where the Wii U managed to make a startling comeback on the back of Mario Kart 8, selling 479% more than the month previous. New estimates from NPD Group’s numbers put the United States in the same level of growth, though the United Kingdom experienced a bigger boom.

According to these estimates, the Wii U managed to sell around 140k units for a 233% increase in sales over the month of June. With sales in from Japan, United Kingdom, and the United States, it’s looking more and more like Mario Kart 8 was definitely the sales boost that Nintendo needed. Here’s a look at each console sales estimate in the United States for June.

PS4: Number 1 best selling = 269K
Xbox One: Doubled sales from the previous month = 197K
3DS: 150K (up 55% over May, was 225K last June)
Wii U: ~140K (up 233% over last June)

Notice that the Wii U is now up to Nintendo 3DS levels here in the United States, where the Nintendo 3DS has continued to enjoy good success. If Nintendo can keep up the momentum generated by Mario Kart 8 with releases like Super Smash Bros., Hyrule Warriors, and Bayonetta 2, this year could be the best-performing year since the launch two years ago.
