In case you haven’t heard, ESPN is getting into broadcasting eSports after years of fans screaming that eSports aren’t real sports. Semantics aside, it looks like Super Smash Bros. will be joining the roster of games broadcast as well, after fan feedback prompted ESPN to take a look at offering more than just streaming League of Legends and DOTA 2 matches.
Seeing a lot of good feedback on the @ESPN_Esports calendar – thanks! We'll be adding more games and events soon, including Smash!

While it’s nice to see mainstream media finally picking up eSports as a relevant and actually enjoyable experience to watch, we can’t help but feel like ESPN is just riding a wave here instead of breaking new ground. With the popularity of Twitch and other streaming platforms, there’s not really any need to broadcast these tournaments on live TV. What do you think?
