The Final Fantasy series started on the original NES and since then it’s spawned a generation of gamers who love the series. Some who started with later iterations want to go back and experience the story of the first games through the virtual console, but that’s cumbersome as the currently available titles only function in Wii mode. One fan reached out to Square Enix to see if the company would consider porting their games to the Wii U virtual console, and Square Enix responded positively.

We’ve already seen publishers like Capcom band together to offer a themed month of virtual console releases. The latest was a Mega Man month in which several old Mega Man titles for the virtual console were updated and brought to the Wii U. It’s reception was very positive among Nintendo fans, so it’s not hard for Square Enix to see why something like this would be popular.

Square Enix has been notably open to bringing their older titles to new devices, as several of the Final Fantasy games now have ports on iOS and Android as well. If you’d like to see titles from the Final Fantasy series updated for the Wii U virtual console, adding your voice to the mix probably wouldn’t hurt.
