Released on the Wii U March 30th of last year, and before that on the Wii on August 2nd, 2012, Dragon Quest X is proving to be one of the most popular MMOs in Japan. A recent interview between the game’s producer and Japanese website 4Gamer revealed a great deal of information about the game’s playerbase.

According to producer Yosuke Saito:

We’ve only released the game in Japan, so you’ll be getting only Japan’s numbers, but we have about 300,000 people a day who actively enjoy the game. Thanks to having released version 2 at the end of last year, we’ve had even more active players since then.

He also mentioned that:

At the time, we feared that version 2 could have actually decreased the amount of players. However, that didn’t happen so we were relieved. Well, it was a little unexpected that people who purchased version 2 and haven’t even been to Lendagia [One of the main continents in Dragon Quest X]

But suggested that:

Maybe they’re spending their time in the casino. It feels as though they’re all playing at their own paces.

There has been talk before about the possibility of a Western release, and when Saito talks about having only the Japanese numbers it suggests that they might still be considering it. You can tide yourselves over while you wait by watching the trailer or looking at our screenshot gallery.

So what do you all think of this? Does the game look interesting to you? If it came out in the West would you get it?
