Doom dev: it was “wicked hard” to bring the game on Switch

Doom is a technical tour de force, so it was naturally going to be a challenge to port to the Switch, which is based on a moble architecture and lacks the power of the other consoles.

But Bethesda still decided to do it, and hired developers Panic Button to do the port.

According to Adam Creighton, Studio GM & Director of Development at Panic Button, the job turned out to be “wicked hard”. Here’s what he had to say about making Doom on the Switch:

“It’s been hard, wicked hard. But I would expect it to be. This is a title that is so frenetic and action-packed and gameplay-pure that getting it to work correctly on the hardware is really important to us, and we spend a lot of time trying to make sure it measures up from the lens of ‘does it feel like Doom?’”

He added that the team is still working hard on the game, and that they are “not cutting corners, and we’re not leaving anything on the table”.

Doom will be released on the November 10. Check out a recent video interview of Doom developers and their process of bringing the game to the Switch.
