Disney Infinity delayed until August

We learned about Disney Infinity early in February, with an expected launch date of June, but it looks like that won’t be happening. Disney Interactive have announced that the series launch has been delayed until August 18th for North America and two days later for other regions.

Disney Interactive co-president John Pleasants revealed the delay and reasoning was made after speaking to retailers, who wanted the series to launch closer to the holiday season. Infinity is very similar to Skylanders, which has seen fall launches for both of its iterations.

The date became an issue in terms of them asking, β€˜Is there a better opportunity here?’…We could deliver in June if we wanted to. Will a two-month timing change help us? Sure, of course. It gives us a little more time to add bells and whistles and make sure it really sings and pops.

It makes sense that Disney’s retail partners want the game released when consumers are traditionally more willing to part with money, but this is another blow for Wii U owners waiting on games in the mean time. The August launch date also puts Disney Infinity into more competition with Skylanders: Swap Force, which will undoubtedly debut around the same time.
