Developer of Journey could bring next game to the Wii U

Thatgamecompany’s Journey did well last year among both critics and fans, receiving many Game of the Year nods and several BAFTA nominations, even going so far as to receive a Grammy nod for best soundtrack for visual media. Despite all the success, Thatgamecompany had to deal with bankruptcy during the development of the game, due in part to PS3 exclusivity.

Co-founder Jenova Chen has stated in order to be successful with their next game, the developer is going to have to step outside the bounds of the PlayStation platform.

I think to have a financial success, that is going to change everyone, it has to be much bigger than a game on the PlayStation platform.

So far, Journey, Cloud, Flow, and Flower have all been PlayStation exclusive, but that’s changing with the next title. No information has been given about the nature of the next game, but Chen did leave this cryptic hint:

Journey was focused on connection…I think we are trying to do one level above that with this game.

It’s interesting to note the possibilities for the game using the Wii U GamePad or perhaps even some of the 3DS capabilities. Are you excited about the multi-platform news? Will you buy a Thatgamecompany title if it becomes available in either the Wii U or 3DS eShop? Let us know in the comments.
