Nintendo no longer manufacturing Classic and Classic Pro controllers

It looks like Nintendo has quietly phased out the production of the Classic and Classic Pro controllers for the original Wii. No official announcement was given by Nintendo, but a screenshot surfaced yesterday when Twitter user @kitroplious purchased Mario Golf from Club Nintendo and was presented with an error message that informed him that the game needed accessories that were no longer being produced. You can see it below:

Despite the fact that these accessories are no longer being made, stores still have plenty of stock. Still, if you wanted to get your hands on the Classic or Classic Pro controller to use with your Wii remote, you might want to do so sooner rather than later, since they’re not being made anymore. Amazon has the original classic controller for $12, while the Classic Controller Pro will still run you $30.

For games that haven’t been made available on the Wii U virtual console to support the Wii U Pro controller, you’ll need a classic controller for Wii mode.
