Now that we have all gotten our New Year hugs and kisses, let’s start thinking about what really matters – Chrome! It’s a fresh year and we are looking for some awesome Chrome products and improvements!
We have put together a list of things we would like to see in 2014! Let’s jump into it.
Chromebooks, Chromebooks, Chromebooks!
We know Chromebooks accounted for 21% of all laptop sales in 2013, so we are sure Google will not be stopping! We expect 2014 Chromebooks to get much better. I am personally hoping for more touchscreen Chrome OS devices. So far we only have the Chromebook Pixel and the Acer C720P Chromebook. Those are nice, but we need more options!
Also, if we can see more better-specced computers at a low price would be awesome. We know it sounds unreasonable to expect more for less, but if the rumors are true, the new Samsung Chromebook will set very high standards! It’s said to come with an octo-core processor, 3 GB of RAM and a 2560x1600p display!
Chromecast apps and support
The Chromecast is one of the most popular articles in the Google Play Store. It’s only $35 and streams your smartphone content like a charm. Its popularity is also making sure more support is on the way. We don’t have too many apps supported right now, but the list is getting longer and 2014 looks to be even better.
There were also mentions of Google working with manufacturers to bring Chromecast functionality built into TVs and other smart devices. And since Chromecast is not expensive, it shouldn’t add much to the regular price of devices! We really can’t wait to see what 2014 brings to the table for Chromecast.
A dual-boot Chromebook?
I know, I am dreaming too much here. I also know there are hacks for installing other operating systems on chromebooks. Wouldn’t it be nice to have the best of both worlds, though? Imagine a Chromebook that can dual-boot as a Windows or Linux machine out-of-the-box.
This would make it easier for consumers to adopt Chrome OS. They could have the speed and simplicity of Chrome OS, as well as the app compatibility and complexity of a “full desktop OS”.
Can I have my old “New Tab” page back?
I know this is too much to ask and probably won’t happen, but I still can’t get over how annoying the New Tab page is! I don’t need the redundant search bar, I can simply use the omnibar! I want my apps back in the New Tab page, it make everything faster and easier. I also don’t want to go into the menu to find my recently-closed sites!
