Nintendo has been pretty tight-lipped about what we’re going to get in the DLC for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild this summer, but today, they’ve released small bits of info.
The first addition is the new “Trial of the Sword.” This 45-room challenge, located at a “certain sacred location,” will test your limits as you fight against room after room of enemies. What’s interesting is that you start out with no weapons or equipment. Given how weapons work in Breath of the Wild, Nintendo’s likely doing this to encourage you to think about which weapons you take from the different enemies.
A new “Hero’s Path Mode” will enable you to track where you’ve walked with Link for the last 200 hours. Nintendo says you can even check where you’ve spent most of your time. The feature will read your save data to see where you’ve been, even before you got the DLC, so you’re not missing any important details.
DLC 1 will also bring a new “Hard Mode” to the game. This new difficulty buffs every enemy up by one level and gives them regenerating health, heightened awareness, and higher max levels. Enemies will also sail through the skies on flying planks. Reach a plank and defeat the enemies to get treasures.
There will also be a few new items to find in Breath of the Wild. The Travel Medallion, found somewhere in a chest, will allow you to register any area as a fast-travel location, though only one location can be active at any given time. Eight treasure chests will give you new armor based off previous Zelda games. Some of these armors include a Major’s Mask, Midna’s Helmet, Phantom Armor, and Tingle’s Outfit.
Collecting the 900 Korok seeds will also be easier, so long as you can find the Korok Mask hidden somewhere in the world. While wearing this armor, the mask will jiggle whenever Link is close to a Korok seed.
DLC 1 is the first of two DLC packs planned for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on the Nintendo Switch and Wii U. You can purchase it as part of the Season Pass.
