Breath of the Wild was the toughest Zelda to develop: Aonuma

Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the biggest, most ambitious Zelda game to date, and it was also the toughest and most challenging to make for Nintendo’s Eiji Aonuma and Shigeru Miyamoto.

In a recent interview with GameInformer on a variety of Zelda-related subjects, Aonuma revealed that Breath of the Wild was the toughest Zelda game to develop.

Shigeru Miyamoto shares that opinion: recently he said that making Breath of the Wild was “nerve racking” because they didn’t know if the game would work.

Breath of the Wild is the Zelda game that has had the longest development time (4 years) and has had the biggest development team (300 people),

It’s also by far the biggest Zelda game to date (it’s larger than all other Zelda games put together), so it’s not that surprising that it was the toughest to make.

And it’s not just the game world that’s massive in Breath of the Wild, it’s also populated with quests and things to do. For example, the game has a whopping 76 side-quests.

We’ll see how it all pans out when the game launches with the Switch console on March 3rd. That’s less than three weeks away!
