Amiibo Festival & Mario Tennis Ultra Smash fail to chart in the UK

Nintendo had a pretty big release week last week, thanks to Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival and Mario Tennis Ultra Smash. They’re both brand-new Wii U titles that take established franchises into new territory, but gamers in the UK weren’t excited about the launches at all.

Ukie’s charts show the top 40 games of the past week in the entire UK region and while titles like Fallout 4, Call of Duty: Black Ops III, and Star Wars: Battlefront dominate the top of the charts, Amiibo Festival and Mario Tennis Ultra Smash failed to place anywhere on the top 40 list. To show how drastic that is, Titanfall was the 40th title on the list, a game that has been out since last year and has died its own death.

Here’s a look at the top ten in the UK, click here to see the full list.

  1. Star Wars: Battlefront
  2. Call of Duty: Black Ops III
  3. Fallout 4
  4. FIFA 16
  5. Rise of the Tomb Raider
  6. Lego Dimensions
  7. Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate
  8. Minecraft: Story Mode
  9. WWE2K16
  10. Need for Speed

This doesn’t bode well for Nintendo, who hasn’t stepped up their advertising for these filler titles and at the same time, continues to insist at selling them at full price. We’re not surprised that Amiibo Festival didn’t chart since it’s a more friendly Mario Party clone, but Mario Tennis has always had a niche fanbase.
