The latest issue of Game Informer didn’t just have news about Nintendo Land, they got plenty of juicy details on New Super Mario Bros U — which was on the cover of the magazine, after all. The first bit of information is that the game will feature a world map just like Super Mario World. The map will list all of the levels in the game, and players are free to scrolls around and explore everything. There are so far 7 confirmed worlds, including Acorn Plains, Sparkling Waters, Frosted Glacier, Layer Cake Desert, and more. The amount of levels will number into the dozens. Players will be able to chose which path to take at several stages in the campaign.
Game Informer also reveals that New Super Mario Bros U will feature a “speed run” mode called Boost Mode, where the objective is to complete the level as fast as possible. The level will automatically scroll, forcing the player to move faster and faster. The game will also feature the “Ice Flower” power-up, which was first seen in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time. The power-up allows Mario to freeze enemies by throwing snowballs at them. Oh, and the story-line has been revealed as well: Bowser has kidnapped Princess Peach once again…
