Confirmed: You can’t backup or transfer Switch save games

Here’s a big reason you should make sure not to delete your Switch save game files: Nintendo has confirmed that you cannot back them up anywhere, nor transfer to another Switch.

Which means that if you’ve invested dozens of hours into Zelda: Breath of the Wild, you better keep an eye on those save files, because if something happens to them, then you’re screwed.

You cannot backup you save game files to the cloud, or even to a microSD card (which the Switch supports). It seems like a massive overlook from Nintendo.

The Wii U makes it possible to transfer save files to a USB drive, and the 3DS has a way of backing up save data. The PS4 and Xbox One consoles offer easy ways to transfer save games to USB drives or to their respective cloud services.

Hopefully this is a feature that Nintendo will add in the future. In fact, it’s not even a “feature“, it’s a bare essential that should have been on the console in the first place.
