Report: Switch has “boost mode” that increases mobile clocks by 25%

According to a new analysis by Eurogamer, the Switch has an interesting “boost mode” when undocked. This mode apparently raises GPU clock speeds by 25%, from 768 MHz to 921 MHz.

However, this option seems to be reserved for Nintendo developers, who can push clock speeds to better test the console’s thermal design. Since faster clock speeds generally increase heat output of the chip, it’s a good way to see how the cooling design functions when pushed to the limits.

Also, Eurogamer pretty much confirms that the Switch uses an Nvidia Tegra X1 chip, since it looks identical to the chip found in Nvidia Shield Android TV.

Their article also confirms our recent report that the Switch uses 4 GB LPDDR4 memory. And according to Eurogamer, developers can to use the memory at 1331 MHz or the full 1600 MHz.
