Leaked Sony emails reveal Mario Kart 8 purchases & more

The Sony Pictures hack that resulted in The Interview releasing online rather than in theaters was one of the biggest pieces of news last year. We’ve already seen some points of speculation arise out of the hack, including the fact that Nintendo has been contacted several times involving the Legend of Zelda series and movies.

Wikileaks has made the entire database of hacked emails and their contents available online for anyone to peruse. A cursory search of Nintendo related key-words in the database has brought up an interesting piece of information. A lot of Sony Pictures employees are apparently fans of Mario Kart 8.

Another interesting point is that aside from working with Nintendo to feature various IPs in the upcoming summer movie Pixels, something involving Mario and Super Smash Bros. is being or was being discussed internally as well. Check out this snippet from one of the leaked emails:

There’s absolutely no telling what Sony and Nintendo have been discussing in terms of characters for upcoming media, but given the success of Wreck-It Ralph for Disney, it makes sense that large movie companies are courting Nintendo harder than ever when it comes to utilizing their intellectual property on the big screen.
