Today Nintendo confirmed that it will be releasing the first smartphone games in partnership with DeNA by the end of the year. No details were given about the games, which intellectual properties they’ll utilize, or their price points. Considering Nintendo’s new partnership with the mobile firm seems to be to appease investors, it’ll be interesting to see how these new mobile titles perform.
The partnership comes at a time when Nintendo is exploring new revenue options, which is why we’ve seen the partnership with GungHo to bring a Mario version of Puzzles and Dragons to the Nintendo 3DS, as well as the various free-to-play games Nintendo has been dabbling with as of late, including Pokemon Shuffle.
Despite Iwatas reservations about embracing the mobile market, it seems as though Nintendo is moving into high gear to have something ready for this fiscal year.
Which franchise do you want to see utilized on mobile first? F-Zero? Metroid? Something else?
