Nintendo pulls the plug on European Wii U TVii service

no-tvii-for-you

Remember Nintendo TVii, that TV service that Nintendo pitched with the Wii U? Nintendo just reminded us of TVii’s existence by cancelling plans to bring it to Europe.

TVii was one of Nintendo’s many pitches for the Wii U, and offers gamers a way to surf TV channels from the Wii U console. And while TVii launched in North America, Europeans have been waiting for quite a while. They don’t have to worry about waiting any longer because Nintendo has given up on bringing TVii to European countries.

The reason for the cancellation? The many different TV networks and cable providers in Europe make it a pain to combine stations into one service. Nintendo UK released a statement about the TVii cancellation, saying:

“Due to the extremely complex nature of localising multiple television services across a diverse range of countries with varied licensing systems, regrettably we have taken the decision not to launch the Nintendo TVii service within the European region.”

That’s one way of reminding us that it existed…
