Japanese sales: Kirby debuts in third place, Wii U sales 7k

The weekly sales charts for Japan have been released, giving us a look at which games are performing best on their charts. The top three spots were claimed by new releases, with the PS3 game Tales of Zestiria claiming the top spot with 340k sales out of the gate. That’s to be expected, because Japan has always been fond of the Tales of series of games. Kirby and the Rainbow Curse debuted at number three on the charts, with 32k sold.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, which released in 2013 in the West finally made its debut in Japan on the Wii U, selling 4.2k copies in its first week. Mario Kart 8 continues to have a healthy number of copies sold each week, while Super Smash Bros. maintains its position slightly above Mario Kart 8.

As for console sales this week, The Wii U is continuing to decline after the post holiday rush, with sales back down to 7k. Sales seem to fluctuate between 4k and 8k on weeks when there isn’t a major new release for Japan, but it looks like the most recent Kirby game wasn’t a console mover for Nintendo.
