UK retailer GAME is hiking amiibo prices due to low stock

It seems that amiibo and the GameCube adapter are a lot more popular that Nintendo planned, as there’s low supply everywhere in the UK of both of these. Just yesterday we announced that Amazon UK is cancelling any outstanding GameCube adapter orders that it can’t fill due to being alerted by Nintendo that there is currently no available stock to fulfill these orders.

Now it looks like UK retailer GAME is cashing in on the low stock of amiibo figures by charging a premium price for them. The figures are normally priced at £11.99, but now with the shortage of several characters, including the rare figures like The Villager, GAME is now charging £14.99 a piece for these figures. One member of the NeoGAF forum has his receipt to show the price increase happened over just a period of four days.

We already knew that some of the amiibo figures are going to be incredibly rare, as Nintendo confirmed that popular characters will continue to be re-printed, but some will have a special run. The Amiibo experiment has been interesting for Nintendo, as we’ve seen misprints sell for a whopping $2,500 on eBay, but now official retail partners are jacking up the price because the supply isn’t there.
