Nintendo’s Q2 earnings report was released today, which revealed that 7.29 million Wii U consoles have been sold since the console launched in 2012. To compare that to other consoles, in August Sony announced that the PlayStation 4 has sold 10 million units since it launched last year in November. Microsoft’s Xbox One has sold 5 million units in the same time frame, which means it could overtake the Wii U in sales soon.

The all important holiday season is coming up, so expect several bundle deals if you haven’t already purchased a Wii U. There’s no information on whether a Super Smash Bros. bundle will be released for the holidays, but given the fact that Nintendo released a Mario Kart 8 bundle earlier this year and announced it only a month or so before the game released means it’s possible we could still see a bundle announcement.

Iwata’s conservative estimate of 3.6 million Wii U units sold this year remains a possibility, thanks both to strong software available and a conservative estimate that the Wii U has exceeded in both years since launch.
