A lot has happened over the last week, not just in the realm of Nintendo things, but elsewhere as well. This is a quick look at gaming news as a whole that we’ll be publishing every Saturday.

Project Morpheus has gamers excited after being announced at GDC 2014, but the recent Facebook acquisition of Oculus VR means fans are turning to Sony for their hope in virtual reality. Even Microsoft seems to want to be on board with augmented reality, as the company has purchased $150 million of patents pertaining to the tech. Is this something we could eventually see all three major console manufacturers embracing? Perhaps the next Nintendo console will have virtual reality capabilities as well.

On the Nintendo side of things, we finally got confirmation that Gameboy Advance games are coming to the Wii U virtual console and they’re coming in the month of April. Instead of doing a trickle-down release of one title each week, we’ll see a whopping THREE titles each week in the month of April, plus the long awaited Super Mario Bros. 3 finally joining the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS virtual consoles. It’s a start, but Nintendo definitely needs to step up the virtual console releases here if they’re going to continue to have such big gaps between their major Wii U releases.

There was also news that Batman: Arkham Knight isn’t coming to the Wii U for technical reasons and a rumor that the annual Assassin’s Creed title that will be released for the 360 and PS3 might target Wii U as well. While the rumor is unconfirmed, it would make sense since the technical capabilities of the Wii U are more in line with last-gen hardware than current-gen.

Jack Tretton has left Sony and Marc Whitten is departing Xbox One. Both were key in the marketing of their respective consoles, so it feels strange to see them go. Marc Whitten had a few parting words for Xbox One gamers this week, including stating his continued faith that the team at Microsoft will continue to deliver a product that gamers want to have.

Our final exploration for the week is a look at controller accessories to improve your experience with the DualShock 4 controller, including better grips for the analog sticks, something to dim that lightbar a bit until the official firmware gets here, and a play and drop kit to make charging as easy as utilizing gravity.

This has been a quick look back at the week in gaming. Want to discuss something we didn’t in the recap? Hit us up in the comments!
