Oddworld: New n’ Tasty is a from the ground up re-imagining of the original PS One classic, Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee. Developer Just Add Water has a good history with remakes of the original Oddworld titles, as the original Stranger’s Wrath Xbox release has been released on several new platforms. The focus of New n’ Tasty was to completely redesign Abe’s Oddysee from a standard 2D puzzle platformer to a fully 3D game on a 2.5D plane. According to recent interview with Eurogamer, Oddworld creator Lorne Lanning says the New n’ Tasty remake only needs to sell about 250k copies for the next game in the series, Oddworld: Abe’s Exoddus to receive the same treatment.
This is great news for fans, but perhaps even better news is that despite all the work that has gone into recreating all the models and environments of the game, Just Add Water is only attaching a $30 price tag to the full game. Fans of the original would have had to play it on PS One or snagged an ultra rare PC copy when it was new, so the fact that Just Add Water is focusing on Sony consoles first is not surprising. They are targeting PC and Wii U release after the initial exclusivity period. Lanning also seems confident in his product, as he said the following in the interview:
“This game will play better, look better, and you’ll have more fun with for more hours of play than games you’re paying $60 for. That’s a promise. And I can say that with absolute confidence. If this had a publisher, the price would be higher and they’d be calling in triple A.”
