With DLC additions like New Super Luigi U, it’s not hard to wonder if Nintendo plans on DLC for future Mario titles. Super Mario 3D World will not have any DLC however, as producer Yoshiaki Koizumi has stated “there’s no plan” for DLC to be released for the title. Koizumi did confirm that 3D World uses the GamePad extensively, so for those who enjoy the dual screen gameplay, you’ll have that to look forward to playing.
Another revelation came from Koizumi-san, who said that while Super Mario 3D World isn’t an open world title, Nintendo is open to developing a title like that, akin to the openness of Super Mario 3D World. You can find the quote below:
I don’t know if we can consider Super Mario 64 as an open world game, but I think Super Mario Sunshine is more consistent with that definition because of the city and entire worlds to explore. Our main standpoint with Super Mario is to ensure that players always know where to go.
It’s for this reason that we have given great importance on the placement and visibility of the flags, particularly in Super Mario 3D World . Again, as creators, we want a large number of people to be able to play and enjoy the game, so it’s sort of our duty to ensure that the objectives are clear to everyone. However, if a very large number of players expressed the desire for a more open Mario, we would take that request very seriously.
I know Nintendo fans here on Wii U Daily have been asking when Super Mario Sunshine will make it to virtual console and around E3 earlier this year, many of you hoped the 3D Mario title that turned out to be Super Mario 3D World would be a sequel to Super Mario Sunsine. If you’d like to see an open world Mario game, you’ll just have to make your voice heard.
