Nintendo blasts Microsoft, “If you’re worried about used games sales, make better games.”

Over the past few days, Microsoft has been getting a lot of heat for their used game policy, as well as the required 24 hour check-in and the always on Kinect. Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime spoke directly to Polygon about the issue and says if people are so worried about used game sales, maybe they should make better games so people won’t want to trade them in.

“…Replayability of our content is super strong. The consumer wants to keep playing Mario Kart. The consumer wants to keep playing New Super Mario Bros. They want to keep playing Pikmin.”

At this year’s E3, Nintendo debuted several new games from beloved franchises, such as Mario Kart and Donkey Kong and Reggie states that he’s confident the gameplay these games will offer will keep these games on gamer’s shelves instead of at a game store for credit toward the next purchase.

“We are confident that if we build great content, then the consumer will not want to trade in our games.”

Sony has completely dropped the matter of trying to stop users from trading in their used games by tying the disk to an account as Microsoft has done, going so far as to release an “official” PlayStation used game trading video which you can watch below. Microsoft is the outlier here and it’s clear gamers want to be able to trade their games. Whether the Xbox One will be successful despite this remains to be seen.
