200+ hour of Zelda Breath of the Wild save file lost during repair

One gamer had to send in his Switch console for repair. Unfortunately, Nintendo couldn’t transfer save data and the gamer lost his 200+ hour playthrough.

That’s because there is still no way to backup save data on an SD card or to the cloud. And when your console needs to be repaired and Nintendo can’t transfer the save files, well, you’re out of luck.

Actually, “out of luck” is a mild way to put it. The proper way to describe such a situation is that you’re fucked.

Nintendo refuses to even acknowledge that this is a problem — the complete lack of backup options for save games.

It’s not just that he lost 200+ hours on Zelda Breath of the Wild, it’s also all the other games he played and saved on the console.

Other users are reporting that they lost 300+ and even 500 hours of Zelda Breath of the Wild because the save files couldn’t be transferred during the repair process.

All other consoles offer cloud saves and a way to backup to external media. The Switch has none.

This is completely unacceptable for a console in 2017. Two thousand and seventeen.
