Switch video recording will be extended past 30 sec in the future

Today’s update to the Switch added a cool new feature: the ability to record gameplay videos directly on the console.

However, it’s only the last 30 seconds that are recorded and can be saved by users. By comparison, the PS4 can record up to 15 minutes of HD footage.

But there’s some good news: Nintendo will eventually extend the recording capability past 30 seconds.

That’s according to sources who spoke to Kotaku and said that the reason it’s capped at 30 seconds right now is because Nintendo first wants to make sure that all its first party games support the feature (Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was updated today with the ability to record video).

Nintendo is also waiting until enough third party games support the feature before extending recording capability up to 5 minutes.

There was no time frame as to when video recording will be extended.
