During the Nintendo Switch presentation this evening, Nintendo revealed that starting this fall, you’ll have to pay to play online with the Nintendo Switch. Until then, though, it’s free for everyone as a trial service. Included with the service are the following features:
- Online gameplay
- Online Lobby & Voice Chat app
- Monthly game download
- Exclusive deals
Everyone, regardless of membership status will still have access to the Nintendo eShop, sharing screenshots to social media, the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app, and add and managing friends to your friends list.
As for the monthly game download, you’ll get an NES or Super Nintendo game each month. Here’s Nintendo’s wording:
Subscribers will get to download and play a Nintendo Entertainment System™ (NES) or Super Nintendo Entertainment System™ (Super NES) game (with newly-added online play) for free for a month.
Nintendo will be releasing an app for smart devices that will allow you to “play online, set play appointments, and chat with friends during online matches in compatible games.”
