Despite only around 6 million Wii U units in the wild, Mario Kart 8 launched worldwide over the weekend and managed to sell 1.2 million copies. That’s a great number for a first start, but we’ll see whether or not this sales momentum can be sustained over the long-tail, which is where it matters most for Nintendo as a company.

If you’ve registered your game on Club Nintendo to receive your free game, you’ve got a survey waiting on you to fill out. One of the questions that survey asks is whether or not the free game offer from Nintendo influenced your purchasing decision at all. It’s understandable why Nintendo wants information on this, they want to know if doing combo offers like this will inspire more people to purchase their products. If you haven’t already, be sure and fill out the survey on Club Nintendo.

It should be noted that the free game offers in North America were limited to four titles, while Europe had a much larger choice.
