No plans for a Metal Gear Rising Revengeance Wii U version

The next game in the Metal Gear franchise, Metal Gear Rising Revengeance, is set to release on Feb. 19 of next year for the PS3 and Xbox 360. In a recent interview with Eurogamer, the game’s producer, Yuji Korekado stated there are plans for a PC port of the game, but no plans for a Wii U version.

“One of the strongest appeals of the Wii U is the GamePad. However, we’ve constructed Metal Gear Rising so you can fully enjoy the game on the controllers whether it’s on the PS3 or the Xbox. So, currently we aren’t thinking about Metal Gear Rising on the Wii U.”

One of the main complaints users had with the original Wii was the lack of 3rd party support. Throughout the console’s cycle, many developers claimed that the system’s graphical limitations and motion controls were not suitable for their games.

Even though the Wii U GamePad’s touchscreen offers a different interface than the Xbox 360 and PS3 controllers, the GamePad still offers the same amount of face buttons, triggers, and sticks. Also, Bayonetta 2, which will likely play similar to Revengeance, is coming exclusively to the Wii U.

Not having support from the latest entry in the Metal Gear franchise is certainly a blow to the console, but the Wii U is seeing support from other major 3rd party franchises such as Rocksteady’s Arkham City and Bioware’s Mass Effect 3.

Were you hoping to see Raiden ninja his way on to the Wii U? Do you think the GamePad optimization argument strong enough to justify not having a Wii U version?
