Nintendo: publishers set play limits on Wii U demos

Wii u demoLast week it was revealed that Wii U demos will have a play limit. Game demos on the Wii U eShop will be playable anywhere from 5 to 30 times, where after they’ll be blocked. However, it was a bit unclear how this limit was set, but most expected that it was a publisher decision.

Now Nintendo has confirmed that individual publishers set the limits on their demos. For example, the newly released Rayman Legends demo has the limit set to 30, while Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed has a limit of 15. FIFA 13 can only be played 10 times before the demo expires.

Setting play limits on demos is a relatively new thing, and was generally popularized by Nintendo with the 3DS, and now this extends to home consoles with the Wii U. It will be interesting to see if the other console makers follow in Nintendo’s footsteps once their new machines hit the market next year.
