When it comes to game of the year lists, you’ll find hundreds around this time of year. Everyone wants to outline what they thought were the instant classics for the year so much so that some games can be drowned out in all the noise about blockbuster releases like Grand Theft Auto 5<\/em>. One thing that is always interesting is when print publications like magazines and newspapers try and do this, since they usually end up choosing games that didn’t define the year very well at all.<\/p>\n

It seems as though the New Yorker is the opposite, as every game available on their list<\/a> has impacted the industry in some way. It’s nice to see such dedication in choosing a list of top ten games, instead of instantly handing out top accolades to the mega blockbusters. Of the top ten games on the list, three of them were Nintendo games. Super Mario 3D World<\/em> earned the third spot, while Pikmin 3<\/em> came in at number five and the 3DS title The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds<\/em> came in at number nine.<\/p>\n
