Many were surprised that Nintendo didn’t showcase Zelda for the Wii U at E3 this year. After all, it’s easily the most anticipated Wii U game out there, and even Shigeru Miyamoto had to go on record saying “don’t worry, Zelda is still coming to Wii U“.
But Nintendo did have plans to showcase Zelda at E3 last week, only to scrap those plans at the last moment.
Apparently, Nintendo had some “phenomenal” footage of Zelda on the Wii U, but they chose not to show it. Why? According to Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo wanted to only showcase Wii U games that are launching in the next six to nine months.
He said in a lengthy video interview with GameSpot, “Our mentality was that we want to showcase at E3 games that are launching over the next six to nine months”, adding that since Zelda isn’t coming out on the Wii U in 2015, “We were concerned that by showing wonderful footage of the game, it would lead to further disappointment on behalf of the fans. So that was a judgement call that we made”.

Reggie did add that “there will be plenty of opportunities for us to showcase that game”, and assured gamers that the game “is going to be wonderful”.
Zelda was showcased late last year with some great footage of the game. However, just months later, Nintendo announced that the game would be delayed to 2016.
