With Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze now firmly in the hands of gamers across the world, Retro is finally opening up and talking about their experiences working with Nintendo while developing the game, as well as their current aspirations and giving hints on what they’re working on next. In one such interview with US Gamer, Michael Kelbaugh talks about where the studio is headed next, in terms of projects they’d like to work on.

“You’re not going to find a larger bunch of Metroid of Metroid Prime fans than at Retro studios. We’ll be lucky to someday, maybe, work on another one. There’s a lot of people in the studio left over from Metroid Prime that are very passionate about Metroid… If the fans keep asking, then maybe we’ll answer.”

Kelbaugh has been reiterating that the team would like to work on the Metroid series again, but we know their new project is already underway and it’s not Metroid. Retro refuses to go into detail about the new project just yet, so we’ll have to wait and see what’s in store for us from the Austin developer.

The entire interview from US Gamer is actually a pretty entertaining read, as Kelbaugh discusses why they decided to make Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze a difficult game in terms of platformers. Be sure and check it out.
